In a major step toward sustainable agriculture, Musim Mas, Nestlé, and AAK have renewed their partnership for the fourth consecutive year to empower independent oil palm smallholders in Aceh Subulussalam, Indonesia. The collaboration—first launched in 2021—tackles deforestation risks and delivers long-term solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges in rural farming communities.
Impact So Far
Through the Subulussalam Smallholders Hub, over 1,581 farmers and 117 Village Extension Officers (VEOs) have been trained in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) principles—far exceeding initial targets.
In 2025, the renewed partnership aims to:
-
Train 500 more farmers and 20 additional VEOs
-
Expand advanced modules aligned with ISPO certification
-
Promote home composting to reduce chemical fertilizer use
Beyond Agriculture: A Community-Centered Approach
This phase deepens support for:
-
Financial literacy and planning for long-term self-sufficiency
-
Youth education in sustainable farming and market readiness
-
Women’s empowerment in nutrition, business, and family inclusion
Preparing for Global Compliance
As the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) implementation nears, the partnership also supports smallholders in meeting new international trade standards—ensuring they remain competitive and included in global supply chains.
