RISA Labs raises $3.5M to cut the red tape in cancer care using AI

    By April 19, 2025Updated:August 9, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Why is cancer care still slowed down by paperwork?
Even in top-tier hospitals, cancer care is clogged with manual, repetitive admin tasks—like prior authorizations and billing codes. These slowdowns aren’t just frustrating—they delay patient treatment and strain staff.

How is RISA Labs changing that?
Founded by Kshitij Jaggi and Kumar Shivang (IIT Kanpur alumni), RISA Labs is tackling the operational mess at the heart of cancer care. Their product, BOSS (Business Operating System as a Service), uses AI—including large language models (LLMs), reinforcement learning, and digital twin simulations—to automate backend workflows in oncology.

    One standout stat?
What used to take 30 minutes per patient now takes just 5. That’s a game-changer for hospitals dealing with thousands of cases each month.

What’s the real-world impact so far?
At a major U.S. cancer center, RISA’s system has:

    • Processed $1M+ worth of medications
    • Cut admin costs by 66%
    • Freed up 80% of staff time from routine tasks

That’s not just more efficient—it’s potentially lifesaving.

    Who’s backing this mission?
RISA just raised $3.5 million in seed funding. The round was led by Binny Bansal (Flipkart co-founder) and supported by a health-focused VC network including Oncology Ventures, General Catalyst, z21 Ventures, and ODD BIRD VC.

Their goal? Scale to 100 cancer centers across the U.S. over the next two years.

What makes RISA different from traditional healthtech?
Where many platforms digitize existing workflows, RISA is rebuilding them. Their approach treats hospital ops like complex systems that can be trained, optimized, and adapted—using the same tech that powers advanced AI agents.

It’s not just about faster approvals. It’s about redefining how cancer care gets delivered behind the scenes—so clinicians spend less time chasing paperwork and more time treating patients.

    What’s next?
RISA is currently expanding its engineering and healthcare ops teams, looking to partner with mission-driven institutions ready to adopt AI-powered operational models. They’re also working closely with compliance and regulatory experts to ensure safety and scalability at each stage.

With oncology demand rising, RISA’s approach may be exactly what’s needed to bridge the gap between care innovation and operational efficiency.
