In a move poised to reshape America’s semiconductor landscape, Texas Instruments (TI) has announced an unprecedented investment of over $60 billion to expand its U.S. manufacturing capabilities. The initiative includes seven semiconductor fabrication facilities (fabs) across three mega-sites in Texas and Utah, marking the largest investment in foundational chip manufacturing in U.S. history.

    A Nationally Strategic Investment

TI’s latest commitment underscores its nearly century-long role in technological innovation and manufacturing excellence. This initiative is expected to support over 60,000 American jobs, while boosting domestic capacity for analog and embedded processing semiconductors, which power everything from smartphones and vehicles to medical devices and satellite networks.

President and CEO Haviv Ilan emphasized the scale and impact of the investment: “We are building dependable, low-cost 300mm capacity at scale to deliver the chips that are vital for nearly every type of electronic system.” He also highlighted TI’s strong relationships with industry leaders including Apple, Ford, Medtronic, NVIDIA, and SpaceX.

Building the Future of U.S. Manufacturing

    Key Sites and Developments:

    • Sherman, Texas: The centerpiece of TI’s investment, with up to $40 billion allocated for four fabs—SM1 and SM2 (already underway), and two future fabs, SM3 and SM4.

    • Richardson, Texas: Expansion continues with RFAB2 ramping up operations, complementing RFAB1, the world’s first 300mm analog fab established in 2011.

    • Lehi, Utah: LFAB1 is currently operational, while construction for LFAB2 is in progress. Both fabs will be interconnected to optimize production flow and scale.

These facilities will produce hundreds of millions of semiconductors daily, enabling TI to serve critical industries including consumer electronics, automotive, healthcare, aerospace, and AI infrastructure.

    Strategic Partnerships Fueling Growth

TI’s U.S.-based manufacturing expansion is being backed by several leading U.S. companies:

    • Apple: CEO Tim Cook praised TI’s domestic chip production as essential to powering Apple products and boosting U.S. manufacturing.

    • Ford: President Jim Farley cited the partnership as key to securing a robust supply chain for the future of mobility.

    • Medtronic: Chairman Geoff Martha credited TI with helping maintain continuity of life-saving devices during chip shortages.

    • NVIDIA: Founder Jensen Huang noted TI’s role in supporting AI infrastructure with U.S.-made semiconductors.

    • SpaceX: COO Gwynne Shotwell emphasized how TI’s Sherman-based fabs are vital to powering high-speed connectivity for Starlink and future space technologies.

    Reinforcing U.S. Semiconductor Sovereignty

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick acknowledged the strategic importance of TI’s investment: “President Trump has prioritized semiconductor manufacturing, and our partnership with TI ensures America remains competitive in a digital economy.”

By leading the charge in domestic chip production, Texas Instruments is laying the foundation for long-term U.S. technological leadership, economic resilience, and innovation across multiple sectors.
