ABB Robotics has introduced PickMaster Lite, a simplified version of its PickMaster software suite designed to help packaging OEMs and system integrators deploy high-speed robotic picking applications faster and with reduced engineering complexity.
The newly launched solution focuses on delivering essential capabilities for common robotic picking tasks, including vision-guided picking, conveyor tracking, and motion control, through an intuitive task-based interface. By simplifying workflows and reducing the need for specialist programming expertise, ABB aims to help manufacturers accelerate automation deployment while lowering operational risks and costs.
According to Craig McDonnell , business line managing director industries at ABB Robotics otics, manufacturers are under increasing pressure to improve production flexibility amid labour shortages and rising consumer demand for personalized products. He noted that PickMaster Lite enables machine builders to bring robotic picking systems online more quickly while maintaining performance and flexibility for high-speed operations.
ABB states that the software includes pre-configured templates and guided workflows, reducing engineering effort by up to 30 percent and commissioning time by 25 percent compared to traditional pick-and-place software or PLC-based systems.
PickMaster Lite can also integrate with ABB ’s RobotStudio platform, allowing users to create digital twins, simulate layouts, and optimize robot paths before physical installation. This helps reduce development risk while improving deployment efficiency for compact and scalable robotic picking cells.
The platform is designed for seamless integration with existing PLC and HMI systems through ABB’s OmniCore controller, enabling machine builders and integrators to retain existing machine architectures while simplifying system management functions such as recipe selection, start, stop, and pause operations.
ABB highlighted that PickMaster Lite is particularly suited for cost-sensitive, high-volume applications across industries including consumer goods, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and e-commerce.
As part of the broader PickMaster family, the Lite version also provides scalability for users looking to upgrade toward more advanced solutions such as PickMaster and PickMaster Twin, which offer expanded customization, advanced simulation, and digital twin capabilities.
