Epson Robots has expanded its 6-Axis robotics portfolio with the introduction of the AX6, the company’s first collaborative robot. The new system is designed to support automation applications where worker interaction, ease of programming and efficient use of space are important considerations.
The AX6 incorporates power- and force-limiting capabilities intended to increase opportunities for human-robot interaction. With appropriate risk assessment, these capabilities can allow the robot to operate without traditional safety barriers in certain applications, providing manufacturers with additional flexibility when designing collaborative workcells.
With the launch, Epson now offers a broader portfolio of robotic safety solutions covering industrial robots focused on speed and performance, collaborative robots designed around worker interaction and redeployability, and industrial collaborative tools that balance the requirements of both approaches.
The AX6 is designed for users with varying levels of robotics experience through no-code programming and an intuitive user interface. Combined with Epson’s AX Portal collaborative robot software, the system provides development tools for creating and deploying automation applications. A customizable Python development environment also enables users to incorporate libraries and modules for more complex applications.
The robot features a compact and lightweight carbon fiber structure intended to support space-efficient workcells. Its IP54 protection and ISO 5 cleanroom rating make it suitable for applications requiring controlled environments. Industrial kinematics allow users to generate straight-line, curved or joint motions through either the no-code or Python-based programming environment.
Additional features include multifunctional user buttons at the end of the robot arm, Ethernet and pneumatic connections for end-of-arm tooling, compatibility with 100 V to 240 V AC and 48 V DC power sources, and a multicolor status LED ring. A 3D simulator allows programs to be tested virtually before deployment within a workcell.
The AX6 is now available through Epson Robots’ distributor partners. The introduction further expands Epson’s robotics offering across precision automation, collaborative applicati
ons and human-robot interaction, giving manufacturers additional options for integrating robotics into environments where safety, accessibility and workspace efficiency are central requirements.
