Katten announced that Financial Markets and Funds Partner Susan Light has been selected to the “Notable Women in Law” list by Crain’s New York Business. This marks her second appearance on the prestigious list, having previously been recognized in 2020.
The distinction honors senior-level women attorneys in New York who demonstrate exceptional leadership within their practices, firms, and the broader legal community.
Leadership in Financial Services Regulation
As co-chair of Katten’s Broker-Dealer Regulation practice, Light brings decades of regulatory and enforcement experience to her role. Her career includes senior leadership positions at the New York Stock Exchange and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), where she helped lead the enforcement division. She also previously served as an assistant district attorney, strengthening her litigation foundation.
Light advises major investment banks, online brokers, proprietary trading firms, and other financial services providers on complex regulatory matters, including net capital and margin requirements, digital assets, supervision, and registration. She frequently represents broker-dealers in high-stakes enforcement investigations conducted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, FINRA, exchanges, and state regulators.
Recognition for Mentorship and Professional Excellence
Beyond her client work, Light is widely recognized for her commitment to mentorship and leadership. She has been ranked in Chambers USA under “Financial Services Regulation: Broker Dealer (Enforcement)” and was named among the Women of Influence by the New York Business Journal. In 2025, she received the Best Mentor award at the New York Legal Awards by the New York Law Journal, following Katten’s John P. Sieger Excellence in Mentoring Award in 2024.
She also serves as national chair of Katten’s Jewish Cultural Affinity Group, reflecting her broader engagement in firm culture and inclusion initiatives.
With nearly 650 attorneys across the United States, London, and Shanghai, Katten continues to strengthen its reputation in financial markets regulation, litigation, and corporate advisory services—supported by leaders such as Susan Light who combine regulatory depth with strategic client counsel.
