President of Latvia Visits Delska’s New Sustainable Data Center in Riga

The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, has visited Delska’s newly developed 10 MW data center in Riga ahead of its official opening. The visit highlighted the facility’s role in strengthening Latvia’s digital resilience, supporting artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads, and advancing sustainable digital infrastructure in the Baltic region.

Strategic Importance for Latvia’s Digital Economy

During the visit, Delska CEO Andris Gailītis and Chief Technology Officer Rihards Kaletovs presented the technical and strategic capabilities of the facility. President Rinkēvičs emphasized the importance of domestically located data centers in supporting technology companies, ensuring service continuity, and enhancing national competitiveness in the digital economy.

The discussions also addressed how data center operators can contribute to European digital sovereignty by providing secure, energy-efficient infrastructure within the region.

Facility Design and Expansion Capability

The modular data center spans 7,100 square meters and supports rack densities of up to 250 kW, making it suitable for advanced AI and HPC workloads. Designed for long-term scalability, the site includes a guaranteed power supply and has the capacity to expand up to 30 MW on adjacent acquired land.

Already recognized by industry professionals and prospective clients, the facility is regarded as one of the most advanced data centers in the Baltic region.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Focus

Sustainability is a core feature of the new data center. The facility is powered entirely by renewable energy sourced from wind, solar, and hydroelectric plants across Northern Europe. Backup generators operate on Neste MY renewable diesel, while surplus electricity generated during maintenance operations is fed back into the grid to minimize waste.

Delska is also exploring opportunities to reuse waste heat from the data center to support residential heating in Riga, in collaboration with the city’s municipal heating company.

Advanced Cooling and Certification Standards

Engineered to achieve an energy efficiency ratio below 1.3, the data center incorporates hot aisle containment, advanced free cooling technologies, Weiss Technik Vindur® CoolW@ll systems, and Trane cooling solutions. The facility supports liquid cooling, air cooling, and direct-to-chip cooling for high-density GPU deployments.

The site has received Tier III design certification from the Uptime Institute and is expected to achieve Tier III facility certification in March. The official opening of EU North Riga LV DC1 is scheduled for April 8.
