In a significant move underscoring the collaboration between automotive manufacturers and Chinese AI innovators, Smart has unveiled its first plug-in hybrid model, the smart #5 EHD, powered by DeepRoute.ai’s advanced assisted driving technology. Chosen for its safety, human-like driving behavior, and scalability, the system achieved a flawless 30.9 km test drive with zero manual interventions, showcasing its maturity and reliability in real-world traffic.

The test, led by DeepRoute.ai CEO Maxwell Zhou and Smart Global CTO Yang Jun, demonstrated the system’s ability to handle complex conditions — from unprotected turns to heavy traffic — while maintaining calm, human-like control. “Safety and intuitive driving are central to the future of autonomy,” said Jun, emphasizing Smart’s confidence in DeepRoute.ai’s innovation.
Zhou highlighted the company’s readiness for mass production, revealing 150,000 vehicles worldwide equipped with DeepRoute.ai technology. The collaboration expands proven all-electric systems to plug-in hybrid platforms, addressing key challenges in large-scale autonomous driving deployment.

Looking ahead, DeepRoute.ai aims to integrate intelligent driving with in-cabin large models, evolving toward agent-based architectures for more natural human-vehicle interaction. This partnership marks a milestone in redefining assisted driving — merging luxury design with technological excellence for the next era of intelligent mobility.
