Granite Telecommunications hosted its 13th annual “Saving by Shaving” fundraiser, bringing together more than 800 participants—including athletes, community leaders, and employees—to support Boston Children’s Hospital. The initiative raised an impressive $4.155 million, pushing the event’s lifetime total to $62.7 million since its inception in 2014.
Star Participation & Community Impact
The event featured notable figures such as Drake Maye, his wife Ann Michael Maye, and Patriots legend Joe Andruzzi. Participants shaved their heads in solidarity with cancer patients, symbolizing support for children undergoing chemotherapy.

Granite CEO Rob Hale and community leaders also took part, reinforcing the company’s commitment to social impact and healthcare philanthropy.
A Tradition Driving Real Change
What started as a small internal challenge has evolved into a large-scale movement. Over 13 years, more than 12,000 participants have contributed to the initiative.
For every participant who shaved their head or donated hair, Granite contributed $2,500, matched by the Hale family – bringing the total to $5,000 per participant directed toward pediatric research and treatment.

Supporting Pediatric Care & Innovation
Funds raised support groundbreaking research and patient care at Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the leading pediatric medical institutions globally.
Additionally, donated hair is provided to organizations that create wigs for individuals experiencing medical hair loss, further extending the initiative’s impact beyond financial contributions.
Expanding Impact Through New Initiatives
The Maye family also announced the launch of a new foundation aimed at supporting pediatric healthcare initiatives. Upcoming events, including a celebrity softball game, will further contribute to funding specialized care programs.
Strategic Significance
The “Saving by Shaving” campaign highlights how corporate leadership, sports figures, and communities can collaborate to drive meaningful change. As healthcare challenges grow, such initiatives play a crucial role in funding innovation and providing hope to families worldwide.
