Skild AI and NVIDIA Bring General-Purpose Robot Intelligence to U.S. Manufacturing

Skild AI's generalized robot brain powers autonomous robots on NVIDIA Blackwell production lines while partnerships with ABB Robotics and Universal Robots accelerate the future of AI-driven manufacturing.

As the United States accelerates efforts to rebuild advanced manufacturing, robotics is becoming a cornerstone of next-generation industrial production. In a significant step toward intelligent factory automation, Skild AI and NVIDIA have announced the commercial deployment of a generalized AI-powered robot brain that will operate autonomous robots on Foxconn’s Houston assembly lines, where NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU server racks are manufactured.

The deployment represents one of the first real-world implementations of generalized physical AI at industrial scale, moving beyond task-specific robotics toward adaptable systems capable of learning and performing multiple manufacturing operations.

General-Purpose AI for Industrial Robots

Unlike conventional industrial robots that are programmed for a single repetitive task, Skild AI has developed what it describes as a universal “robot brain” capable of adapting to different workflows without extensive reprogramming.

Powered by an omni-bodied AI model, the software enables robots to perceive their environment, make decisions, and perform a wide range of physical tasks across different hardware platforms. This flexibility allows manufacturers to rapidly adjust production processes without redesigning entire robotic systems.

According to Skild AI, the approach significantly reduces engineering complexity while improving operational scalability, allowing robots to transition more easily between manufacturing tasks as production requirements evolve.

Supporting NVIDIA’s U.S. AI Manufacturing Expansion

The deployment aligns with NVIDIA’s ambitious strategy to manufacture AI infrastructure within the United States. The company plans to build approximately $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure over the next several years, including Blackwell-based AI supercomputing systems.

Producing these advanced computing platforms at scale requires highly automated factories capable of operating with greater efficiency, consistency, and flexibility.

By integrating Skild AI’s software into robots working alongside human operators, Foxconn’s Houston facility is expected to enhance manufacturing productivity while supporting the growing demand for AI computing infrastructure.

Expanding Through Robotics Industry Partnerships

Beyond its collaboration with NVIDIA and Foxconn, Skild AI has announced strategic partnerships with ABB Robotics and Universal Robots, expanding the reach of its AI platform across widely deployed industrial robotic systems.

The partnerships are designed to embed Skild AI’s generalized intelligence into existing robot fleets operating across manufacturing facilities worldwide.

As more robots adopt the platform, Skild AI expects to collect increasingly diverse operational data that continuously improves the AI model through large-scale learning. This creates what the company describes as a “data flywheel,” enabling faster learning, broader capabilities, and more adaptable robotic behavior over time.

Automation Becomes Essential for Reshoring

The announcement comes amid growing investment in U.S. manufacturing across the electronics, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and advanced industrial sectors.

Companies announced more than $1 trillion in new U.S. manufacturing investments during 2025, reflecting broader efforts to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce reliance on overseas production.

However, industry leaders increasingly acknowledge that large-scale reshoring will depend on intelligent automation to address persistent labor shortages, rising production costs, and growing manufacturing complexity.

Advanced robotics powered by AI are expected to play a central role in enabling highly autonomous factories capable of maintaining global competitiveness.

Building the Next Generation of Physical AI

Generalized physical AI represents a significant evolution beyond traditional industrial automation.

Instead of programming robots individually for each task, manufacturers can deploy intelligent systems capable of understanding their surroundings, adapting to new objects, learning from experience, and performing multiple operations using a common AI foundation.

This shift mirrors the evolution seen in generative AI, where foundation models serve numerous applications rather than being built for single-purpose functions.

As AI models continue to improve, physical AI platforms are expected to accelerate automation across manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, healthcare, construction, and service industries.

Looking Ahead

The collaboration between Skild AI, NVIDIA, Foxconn, ABB Robotics, and Universal Robots illustrates how artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming industrial automation from fixed-function robotics into adaptive, intelligent manufacturing systems.

As AI infrastructure demand continues to surge and manufacturers invest heavily in reshoring production, generalized robot intelligence could become a foundational technology powering the factories of the future.

By combining advanced AI models with established robotic platforms, the industry is moving closer to autonomous production environments capable of scaling rapidly, improving operational flexibility, and supporting the next generation of smart manufacturing.
