Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) has announced Zach Gibbons, Senior Master Service Technician at Dick Hannah Subaru in Vancouver, Washington, as the winner of the 2025 Subaru Technician Competition. The biennial event, held at SOA’s U.S. headquarters in Camden, New Jersey, recognizes top Subaru technicians for their expertise, precision, and technical excellence.

Gibbons, a 15-year industry veteran, will now represent the United States at the Subaru World Technician Competition in Tokyo, Japan, in 2026. During the national event, fourteen Zone Champions competed in an 80-minute challenge focused on engine performance, drivability, and electrical diagnostics. Gibbons’ accuracy and mastery earned him the top honor, followed by Brenden Maurer (Boardman Subaru, OH) in second place and Alan Garza (Gillman Subaru Southwest, TX) in third.
Jeff Walters, President and COO of Subaru of America, praised the competitors, stating, “Hosting these top-performing technicians shows how their dedication directly impacts our customers’ experience. We’re proud to see Zach represent Subaru on the global stage.”

Gibbons’ passion for understanding automotive systems began early in life, leading to a career defined by curiosity and continuous learning. A graduate of Mt. Hood Community College, he previously competed in the 2016 Subaru Technician Competition and continues to advance his expertise in hybrid drivetrains and driver-assistance systems.
Subaru also highlighted its Subaru University (Subaru-U) initiative, a partnership program designed to train future automotive service professionals in collaboration with NATEF and AYES-accredited schools. The program aims to meet the rising demand for skilled technicians across Subaru’s 640 U.S. retailers.
