Strong AI governance, transparency, and ethical frameworks are essential for building trust and enabling responsible innovation
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Strong AI governance, transparency, and ethical frameworks are essential for building trust and enabling responsible innovation.

As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes industries, organizations are facing a critical question: How can AI be deployed responsibly while maintaining trust, ethics, and human oversight? In this exclusive conversation with UNI Network Magazine, Omkar Joshi, Global Managing Director of the AI Business Unit at BSI, shares his perspectives on trusted AI, governance, workforce transformation, and the future of responsible innovation.
Q1. AI adoption is accelerating across industries. How do you see organizations approaching this transformation?
Ans. Every organization approaches AI differently based on its culture, risk appetite, and business priorities. Some companies are moving rapidly, while others are adopting AI more cautiously. There is no right or wrong pace.
What is important is that organizations, regardless of where they are in their AI journey, establish strong governance frameworks and guardrails. AI must be adopted responsibly, ethically, and safely to ensure long-term success and trust.
Q2. Trust remains one of the biggest concerns surrounding AI. How can businesses build trustworthy AI systems?
Ans. Trust is fundamental. We have seen several high-profile cases where AI systems produced harmful or unintended outcomes, which naturally raises concerns among users.Organizations should focus on evidence-based AI, transparency, continuous monitoring, and human oversight. Businesses should resist the temptation to rush AI deployments without understanding potential risks. Building trust takes years, but losing it can happen overnight. Responsible governance, external validation, and robust risk management are essential for creating AI systems that users can trust.
Q3. Many organizations envision highly automated or even fully autonomous operations. What is your perspective on a "human-free" future?
Ans. Automation can undoubtedly deliver significant gains in productivity and efficiency. However, we believe humans should remain involved in critical decision-making processes. Even in highly automated environments, human oversight is essential. People must retain the authority to review, intervene, and override AI-driven decisions when necessary.Technology should augment human capabilities rather than completely replace human judgment.
Q4. As automation expands, how can companies preserve the human experience and personalization customers value?
Ans. AI should be viewed as an augmentation tool, not a replacement for people. The goal is to remove repetitive tasks so employees can dedicate more time to creativity, problem-solving, innovation, and customer engagement. Organizations must communicate clearly - both internally and externally - that AI is enhancing the customer experience rather than eliminating human interaction. Maintaining empathy and meaningful engagement will continue to be a competitive differentiator.
Q5.Universities and professionals are struggling to identify future-ready skills. What capabilities should individuals focus on?
Ans. History has shown that technological revolutions create new opportunities even as they disrupt existing roles. While technical skills remain important, professionals should continuously reskill and embrace lifelong learning. Emerging areas such as AI governance, cybersecurity, privacy, data protection, and AI assurance will become increasingly valuable. Equally important are uniquely human capabilities - critical thinking, creativity, communication, adaptability, and ethical judgment. These skills will remain highly relevant in an AI-enabled world.
Q6. There is growing concern that AI will replace jobs. Are these fears justified?
Ans. I remain optimistic. AI will certainly transform jobs, but it will also create entirely new professions and industries that do not exist today. We've witnessed similar transitions with computers and the internet. While there may be short-term disruption, society adapts, new opportunities emerge, and the workforce evolves. The key is continuous learning and staying relevant as technology advances.
Q7.What role does AI governance play in ensuring responsible innovation?
AI governance is no longer optional - it is becoming a business imperative.Organizations need clear strategies, robust data quality practices, risk controls, monitoring mechanisms, and ethical frameworks to ensure AI systems are deployed responsibly.Trusted AI will become a strategic asset for organizations, enabling sustainable innovation while safeguarding customers, employees, and socieQ8. Looking ahead, what is your vision for AI over the next five years?
Ans. I believe humanity is entering a new era of productivity and efficiency unlike anything we've experienced before.AI has the potential to become a tremendous force for good - provided it is governed responsibly. Businesses that establish strong governance, transparency, and ethical standards today will be best positioned to realize AI's full potential. I am very optimistic about the future. Trusted AI will unlock extraordinary opportunities for organizations and society alike.
"As AI moves from experimentation to enterprise-wide adoption, the conversation is shifting from whether organizations should use AI to how they can deploy it responsibly. According to Omkar Joshi, the future belongs not simply to organizations that adopt AI quickly, but to those that build trust, governance, and human-centric innovation into every stage of their AI journey."
